Matt Mills, AIGA

Matt Mills, AIGA

Art Director

Matt has a drive for new experiences and fresh challenges. You see it in the breadth of his work and freelance experience:  everything from Target and Halls of Kansas City to Seattle Monthly Magazine and Avila University, in both advertising and publishing. The aggregate knowledge of all those opportunities gives him the flexibility to design solutions for any client, to see who they really are and what they really need. It's that empathy that serves him so well in his passion for branding and identity. And it's that challenge that invigorates him here every day.  As he says, "If it wasn't challenging, I wouldn't be having any fun."

Jenny Wilmot

Jenny Wilmot

Interior / Environmental Graphic Designer

As a child Jenny was always intrigued by how things worked. Her parents were always frustrated that Jenny broke things, from radios to TVs to see their inner workings. Jenny would later draw pictures of all the broken items and build imaginary cities out of TV vacuum tubes.

It was years later that Jenny put this information to good use in her college design projects at Louisiana Tech University. While at college Jenny learned all facets of design from architectural design, model making, interior architecture, mixed media and furniture design.

Jenny joined the design team of HOK Sport right after college and began to hone her skills as an architectural designer. She loved working on projects for some of her favorite sport teams and thinking of ways to apply each teams brand and unique story line to certain areas within the building. It was here that Jenny met and worked with John Greenlee on several major league baseball stadiums.

Jenny later decided to focus her design skills on environmental graphics and branded environments. Jenny was instrumental in establishing HOK Sports in-house graphics group. Jenny served as the HOK Sport Graphics Group project manager where she managed and mentored design teams to deliver technically sound and creative design solutions that meet Client’s budgets and time frames.

John Greenlee, AIA

John Greenlee, AIA

Principal

John states plainly and emphatically his goals for BlueBike: deliver a better product, at a better price, in less time, with a more enjoyable process for everyone involved. A tall order, to be sure, but his time as Director of Interiors and a Principal at HOK Sport + Venue + Event not only gave him the skills and experience to know it could be done, but also convinced him it should be done. There had to be something better than the corporate quagmire—so he left to found BlueBike. Now he enjoys the best of both worlds: his background in world-class projects means he can deliver unsurpassed solutions for even the most challenging projects, while the small studio allows him to do it more quickly and uniquely, without the heavy weight of corporate bureaucracy and greed. Launching out on one’s own can be risky, of course, but the risks yield more creative and productive results. John says of his favorite tools (a black felt pen and tracing paper), “there are never any mistakes, only ideas.” The small, responsive studio lets him explore and cultivate those ideas to the benefit of the client. It also helps that he knows intimately the whole team of designers he has assembled, and can delegate assignments according to their individual strengths and interests. The result: consistently more well-matched and functional solutions than cookie-cutter agencies, done more quickly and efficiently—just like John wanted all along. And who wouldn’t enjoy that?

Ed Coon

Ed Coon

Architect / Project Manager

Ed believes that everything should be designed. Everything that we use and come into contact with daily should be given the appropriate thought as to what is an objects function, design and relative cost. The only way to achieve this on a Design Project is through Teams. A Team allows the process to be broken down and distributed so that all of the various elements of a Project receive thought and consideration by those with the right knowledge and experience.  Ed has spent the last thirty years organizing and working in Teams for all manner of Projects. This has given him extensive experience in all phases and roles of architectural practice on a variety of building types. He has been a key Project member on some of the largest sports facilities completed in the last twenty-one years while employed by HOK Sport+Venue+Event. The last 15 years he has organized and lead Project Teams as a Principal and Project Manager. These projects have a combined total construction cost over well over $1 billion. Ed has a demonstrated ability to be prime liaison between Owners, Users, Associate architects, Contractors and the Design Team.

Jeff Windmeyer

Jeff Windmeyer

Interior Architect

Jeff believes that understanding technology in this ever advancing field is paramount to being a good Designer. Whether it be new materials, or advancements in software, knowing what is out there and how best to use it to achieve a client’s needs will always help make a project successful. With today’s ability to create a fully realized 3-D world, Jeff believes that the ability to design all aspects of a project have never been more important. We now use a computer generated model to not only walk the client through, but also as a way of better documenting for construction.

After graduating from Kansas State University’s Interior Architecture Program, Jeff has worked the last four years on various types of projects and in various roles. From interiors of coffee shops, to entire Shopping Malls, he has been a part of all aspects of design – interior and exterior. Playing the different roles of Interior Designer and Architect on these projects has helped give him a unique opportunity to better understand how a building comes together, and with that, become a better designer.

Abbey Helland

Abbey Helland

Interior Designer

I always knew I wanted to be a designer. My passion for people and creating unique spaces lead me to interior design. Not only being able to make a space functional but also being able to create an environment that people look forward to working/living in is the ultimate goal. If just walking into a space can completely change one's day for the better, we have succeeded.

I enjoy working and collaborating with all disciplines to ensure the best possible results. While receiving my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Interior Design I had the opportunity to thrive as an artist as well. Being able to combine all aspects of design has immensely helped me look at each space with endless possibilities.

I've had the opportunity to work on a wide realm of projects. Anything ranging from elementary schools to chic coffee and wine bars to large scale mall renovations. I always pride myself on having every project be as unique as the next one. Always wanting to use the latest products in the industry but also being able to make the space timeless. As an Interior Designer combining space planning, lighting design, interior finishes, and furniture we can make each space come alive.

John Ho

John Ho

Architect

John started doing architecture at age 5 with an early set of lego-typebuilding blocks. A building a day got to a point where the existingpieces had to be broken and re-used in different ways to allow for newdesign and assembly possibilities, as well as adding found objects andother materials. Since then John has continued to break the mold in thetraditional path of architecture, zig-zagging from interning in highschool, work-study through college, architect’s office, individualpractice, to working overseas for developers and owners, and inconstruction and project management. In the last 30 years, John haslived and worked in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Taipei, Hong Kongand Kansas City on projects ranging from airport, sports, event andhospitality to custom interiors and urban planning.

John believes that all aspects of the arts should be investigated in thedesign process as is applicable. From design theory and the inclusionof the disciplines involved in a building project to the fine arts, sothat architecture can continue to innovate and advance into the futurein a pragmatic and holistic approach. Meanwhile, John continues tobreak the standard pieces and reuses them in new and interesting ways.

Kara Raasch

Kara Raasch

Designer I

Kara has always had an intuition when it comes to people. She has a knack for knowing what they want even if they can’t put it exactly into words. Guess that’s why her favorite design element is color, a language she uses to capture and enhance a client’s mood, personality and style. It’s also why she got into design, because she loves helping people find the sanctuary they’re after but never knew how to find. But most important, it’s that ability to translate needs and desires into creative designs that makes Kara such an asset to BlueBike. And her people skills also help her work productively with the other creative people at BlueBike throughout the process from idea to image to tangible outcome. In short, Kara’s intuition turns challenges into solutions, problems into possibilities, and inklings into reality.
